This evening, Saturday 4th August 2018, it was Slaidburn Silver Band's turn to give the Last Night of the Proms concert, on the Clitheroe Castle Bandstand. Prior to the concert some members of the band decorated the bandstand with festive flags and bunting.
The concert started at 6:30pm with the National Anthem followed by the band's theme march, Slaidburn. It was an all British program of music, which included a variety ranging from Ed Sheeran's song "Perfect", to a waltz selection from Gilbert and Sullivan operas.
The second half included the popular Last Night classics of Fantasia on British Sea Songs, Jerusalem and Pomp and Circumstance. Commemoration pieces included "Those Magnificent Men" for the 100th anniversary of the RAF and Elgar's "Nimrod" in memory of the Fallen of the First World War.
Before ending the concert with "Auld Lang Syne" the band played an arrangement of the "Dad's Army" theme with "Run Rabbit", to celebrate 50 years since the first broadcast of the comedy classic, Dad's Army.
The concert had dry and sunny weather, which led to it being very well attended, with good audience participation. Guests included Civic Dignitaries from the Ribble Valley and surrounding areas.
